Power over Ethernet can bring power and data to an industrial device through one cable, but the component enquiry still needs a clear system definition. SZIME Electronics supports semiconductor sourcing for industrial cameras, connected sensors and network equipment. We welcome teams seeking components for an approved PoE design as well as projects still defining their power architecture.

Identify which side of the connection you build

Power sourcing equipment, or PSE, supplies the cable. A powered device, or PD, receives that power. An industrial switch and a PoE camera therefore need different controller functions even when they belong to the same installation. Begin the enquiry by identifying the role of the board being developed.

Then describe the intended PoE type, port arrangement and equipment load. Keep the controller requirement attached to that role when purchasing reviews candidate parts. TI's TPS23881 is a PSE controller example, while TPS2373 is a PD interface example; their functions are different and they are not interchangeable devices.

Follow the power budget through the complete path

The power available at the source, at the receiving interface and at the final load is not the same quantity. Cable losses and downstream conversion must be considered when defining the equipment budget. Explain where a requested power figure is measured so that engineering and procurement compare like requirements.

For equipment with several operating modes, include startup and peak demand as well as typical operation. If external power is also possible, describe the intended priority between sources. These details help establish which controller and supporting power functions belong in the component list for review. A camera that powers additional lighting, for example, should identify that load separately so the proposed power budget can be checked against the actual operating sequence.

Include conversion and protection components

A PD interface does not by itself define every downstream supply rail. The design may also require a DC converter, rectification, protection and load management. Where isolation is part of the system requirement, identify the relevant power and signal paths before discussing associated parts or proposed alternatives.

For a PSE design, purchasing should follow the selected channel and port configuration. Supporting switches, sensing components and control resources must match that implementation. SZIME can discuss sourcing for the component group, with exact part codes and configuration notes retained in the enquiry rather than reduced to a general PoE label.

Keep Ethernet data and PoE power requirements distinct

The Ethernet physical layer handles the data link, while PoE controllers handle their respective power functions. Both may be needed in one industrial device. TI's machine vision reference design illustrates this combination, bringing an Ethernet physical layer together with an isolated PoE power supply for a camera application.

State the required data interface and the selected power architecture separately. A product revision might change one while retaining the other. Keeping those decisions visible helps the sourcing review preserve approved parts and identify which components need further engineering evaluation before purchasing proceeds. Include the intended restart behavior after a power interruption among the system conditions your engineering team will validate.

Review alternatives against the implemented design

When a requested part is difficult to source, an alternative needs review beyond its PoE marketing category. Compare the specific function, package, control interface and operating conditions, then examine startup and system behavior. Manufacturer documentation and project validation should guide acceptance of any change.

SZIME handles TI and other international brands through independent distribution. Share the documentation and source requirements that apply to your purchasing process, together with the project milestone. We can review the requested devices, supporting records and delivery terms against the purchasing requirements of your project.

Bring your industrial networking project to SZIME

Send a controller part number, a partial BOM or a description of the industrial device you are developing. Include the PSE or PD role and the next engineering or manufacturing decision. Early project enquiries are welcome even when the final component selection and purchasing quantities remain open.

Contact SZIME Electronics at sales@szime.cn or +86 755 8321 9500, and visit en.cstiot.com for sourcing enquiries. We can discuss the controller, conversion, interface and protection components as a coordinated purchasing requirement, helping your team prepare the next build around the design it intends to use.
